Formed in 1965, the Vernon Club has over 50 members. We are women in all stages of life, from a wide range of careers and professions, who find fellowship in contributing to our community while being a lifelong learner.
We are one of 23 clubs in BC and are affiliated with the BC Council, the Canadian Federation of University Women headquartered in Ottawa, and Graduate Women International. Through BC Council and CFUW, we advocate for government and civic policies aligned with our purpose.
1. Promote high standards of public
education in Canada, advanced study
and research by women, and a sound
concept of lifelong learning.
2. Advocate for the advancement of the
status of women, human rights and
the common good locally, nationally,
3. Promote cooperation, networking,
support and understanding among
4. Encourage and enable women to apply
their knowledge and skills in
leadership and decision-making in
political, social, cultural, educational
and scientific fields.
What we do
Members believe we can make the world
a better place by educating, advocating,
and assisting individuals and like-minded
organizations. We are interested in
making friends and having fun in our
interest groups, at social events and
We support members in furthering their
own learning through hosting speakers at
our monthly lunch meetings, and through
organizing speaker series and special
events. We organize community forums,
panel discussions, and special events on
current issues and topics.
We raise funds through a variety of
Special Events each year to provide two
scholarships annually for students at
Okanagan College. We support Junction
Literacy through stocking community
bookshelves, volunteering, and
participating in the Annual Spelling Bee.
We support Women’s Transition House at
Christmas and throughout the year as
needed. Visit our Facebook page for the latest information.
We advocate and initiate change by
educating our members and the
community about issues that matter to
women. We work for local and provincial
change by writing to or meeting with
politicians, and by writing letters to the
editor. We campaign nationally and
internationally through our national and
international organizations, adopting and
acting on policy initiatives and resolutions
